First of all: I have no experience in coding. But I had issues with Gnome3 and Systemd to install Kodi from source. So I changed the sys-power/upower-pm-utils Dependancy to sys-power/upower and it works. Maybe you could add a trigger in your ebuild, which checks if the user has Openrc or systemd running?
