Redundant Power for 1G switch #240

Closed tatarsky closed 6 years ago

The Dell N1548 switch we use for the 1G operations has a single power supply. Which can be a single point of failure.

But it supports an external "RPS" power supply. I have ordered a used one to see if it will fit into the rack layout. I'll know more when it arrives ~4/11

Unit showed up. While used I believe it is the correct model for the "RPS" external power supply. Will discuss further with SDSC ops to see if we can fit it in the rack after I run it for awhile here to make sure its functional.

Actually, it appears to be brand new. Original stickers over the power ports which usually aren't there. More shortly. Running on a bench for a bit.

My tests show no issues. Emailed COLO for a check if there is room for it.

Unit racked. Just waiting on power cable attachment by COLO.

We are redundant. There are three other of these "Remote Power Supply" cables that came in the unit. We don't need them but they are relatively rare it turns out. I would going to suggest we get them into @hirokomatsui hands just in case we expand someday and need more redundant 1G switches.
