Problem with installing MacFUSE Core 10.5-1.1.1 on OS X Leopard #295

What steps will reproduce the problem?
         1. Download MacFUSE Core 10.5-1.1.1
         2. Launch MacFUSE Core.pkg
         3. Installation fails with the following output:
         " Installation failed.
Installation program couldn't install several files in "/". Contact the software editor to get
help/"

Problem is the same even when I compile MacFUSE Core myself…

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
         I'm using OS X 10.5 Leopard.

Please provide any additional information below.

What's a "software editor"? I certainly am not your software editor.

Look at the /usr/local/ directory on your system. Is it a symbolic link to
itself, or something else abnormal?
Some others who upgraded Tiger->Leopard have had that issue. If that's the
case, it's Apple's fault. Just delete
the offending symbolic link and try again..

Good prediction ! It was a problem of symbolic link to itself in
/usr/local/directory
That's an easy correction that re-enables installation of several programs such
like MacFUSE or R…
Thanks !

If you use the search feature, you can make the same "prediction". (Several
others have run into this.)
