File transfer would be a killer feature for PyICQ-t. Maybe some of the code
(the
Jabber side) from PyMSN-t can be used, once it's ready.

I'm more or less just waiting on James at this point. No sense in me trying to
figure it out from scratch when he's almost got it. =D I'll import his work
into the Py's and go from there. I just need to get the oscar side of things
working. (it's possible this functionality already exists)

is there anything new in this topic? any possible "release" date??

Not yet. I'm thinking something along the lines of version 0.9 for file
transfer. I've looked at gaim's handling of file transfer and -man- is it
ugly.
Looks like I need to implement "direct connect" stuff first as well
for it to work right. I've also been observing PyMSN bug reports to see what
issues are coming up, and trying to wait for all of that to stabilize before I
work it into pyicq/pyaim.

(that said, if anyone else is hell bent on working on file transfer, do it
to it
and send me patches! just please let me know you are doing it so I don't
duplicate work)

What's the status of file transfer? Is it going to be available in not so
distant future?

And is the SVN a reliable source to see what's the status, or there is code
written that is not there?

I'm asking because I had the idea of trying to code this, and although I gave
up, it would be nice to know - if I suddenly decide to try to write some code,
it would be nice to know if there is progress, and if we won't see this in the
near future, I should not wait, but rely solely on coding it myself, etc. :)

Thank you.

Howdy! I do not yet have any idea of when I'll be able to do the file transfer
stuff. If you would like to start on it, please do! I'm all for patches. If
you do decide to start on it, please drop me a note so I know you are doing so
(so I don't start working on it myself). I basically have not even thought
about it yet. It definitely isn't planned as a next release type of thing.

SVN is indeed a reliable source for the status. Note that I haven't even moved
over the file transfer code from PyMSN yet.

If you code it before I put out a new release than I will certainly
include it!
No pressure obviously. Just wanted to make it clear that I wouldn't "hold
on to it" until a later release. =)

AOL opened the specification of OSCAR - maybe that helps?
http://dev.aol.com/aim
That would be really a killer feature but unfortunately I don't have any
experiences
in developing with python.

The only interesting information I could find in a quick search is that the
FILE_TRANSFER server/client capability has the UUID
09461343-4C7F-11D1-8222-444553540000... Nothing really stunning, but of course
I
may have missed the info in this short view.
