Suddenly stopped working #151

Describe the bug I tried connecting my Android phone, a Blu device, using a USB cable, and no matter what I do, no matter how many times I click the Refresh icon, it does not load. I have had to wirelessly transfer my files, and I will literally die before the transfer is finished.

Expected behaviour It's supposed to load the phone's internal files and should also load the files on the microSD card when I click the microSD card icon. It did before, then I made the mistake of updating, and now it won't work.

Current Behavior Nothing. Literally nothing.

Possible Solution

I'm an idiot, so I have no suggestions.

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs) Provide a link to a live example or an unambiguous set of steps to reproduce this bug. Include code to reproduce, if relevant

  1. Buy a clearly inferior Android phone

  2. Buy a clearly inferior USB cable.

  3. Connect inferior phone using inferior cable to old MacBook Pro

  4. Get angry that macOS does not natively support MTP, and realize your life would literally be easier if it did.

  5. Stare at the screen in rage as the application that used to work suddenly doesn't.

  6. Realize your life is completely worthless.

Context Well, now I have to wirelessly transfer the files using Commander One as an FTP client and some cheap FTP server app I paid for a few years ago, thank God. I'm looking at Commander One right now, and because the wireless transfer of large files is stupid and inferior, it's saying I'll die of old age before hte first file actually finishes transferring to the stupid device. And yes, this happens on every single network I try. The wireless transfer of files over FTP or any other medium is stupid and I don't care how stupid I look in saying that.

Your Environment Well, I'm on the West coast, at my sister's house, using her Xfinity connection.

I really like the app and it was wonderful when it was working, and it's likely due to the fact that I am cursed and that absolutely nothing in my life ever works. In any case, I'm going back to using Android File Transfer.

Hey @ema1982

Your Environment Well, I'm on the West coast, at my sister's house, using her Xfinity connection.

You made my day! :D

I feel you, we all feel ya!

I made this app literally for the same reason as I didn't find help from anywhere and all the apps found online were slow or expensive. I am well aware of the OpenMTP's incompatibility issue with certain devices. This is beyond my reach for now. I have been reaching out to the community to help me build a new Kernel which could allow OpenMTP to connect to wider range of devices.

I have some ideas, but I am not getting enough time to work on it.

it's likely due to the fact that I am cursed and that absolutely nothing in my life ever works It's not you, it's MTP (the protocol) which is cursed.

Hold on to it, I will see if I can do something about this.

This should have been fixed by https://github.com/ganeshrvel/openmtp/pull/181

Keeping this open until the stable release it out.

Hi @ema1982,

Could you download the latest community beta version of OpenMTP from https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wpSlkGWZKe4-nRYcdJaPVA3Y6kOBMTsO/view?usp=sharing and let me know whether your device is recognized?

Cheers
