Communicate steps needed to make GBIF published datasets visible as Works at ORCID profiles

Thanks to the discussion and experiments with Daniel, we realized that one's datasets authered at GBIF only show at one's ORCID profile as Works (alongside papers) if permission are open in many directions GBIF and ORCID, ORCID -> DataCite, and at DataCite profile -> ORCID. I found these simple steps anyhow very non-trivial and not intuitive, but wonderfully automatic when fixed.

Making this post from the dataset I co-authored, but cannot see in ORCID, but I can see other datasets at GBIF somehow.

For many academia-rooted people, the mere visibility of the datasets in GBIF as ORCID listed works is a big step to diversify portfolio of academic outputs beyond papers only and to also include datasets with DOIs. I suggest sending the letter / sharing the message explaining how fixing GBIF to ORCID is done and why it is a big deal. I don't think it should be a forum thread or a blog post.

I also have a discussion starter with ORCID team who are excited about how much ORCID is all over GBIF, and they suggest a call.

As discussed with @dnoesgaard, and before the recently linking needs - with @timrobertson100

I think it would be possible to pay to join ORCID ($4500/year) and for us to add the 'works' directly to a user's profile, where we receive a dataset (e.g. from an IPT) with ORCIDs included.

This could be part of the process the registry does when a dataset is created or updated.

We may need to review privacy/GDPR rules before implementing this.

Note that the user would still need to grant permission for GBIF to do this, I think by logging in to GBIF.org with an ORCID (then it's all done) or by adding the ORCID later.

The discussion with ORCID needs revival, and if topic will be concluded valid, I would think about this before the next WP is drafted. Can mention to SC in the nearest call to collect opinions
