@studiosquid To confirm but I think there are some illustrations that exist around this.

There is an illustration of this (attached) but is it overly detailed for the homepage?

omg i forgot that pic!! tbh i think its greatttt its kinda the whole thing in one image really

studiosquid commented 1 year ago

Mark to look for alternative illustrations which are simpler / less text heavy which convey the needs.

I think this is a great image for pitching partnerships, but way overcomplicated for pitching PlaceCal to people who will use it; whether partner admins or users. They don't need a system diagram or anything this complicated - just something that expresses the very simple concept of "You can add your events to PlaceCal"

We have this illustration which was part of the problem -> solution series — feels like this might be pretty much what we're after?

Have done a crude mock of how this could work — my concern here is that it was designed to be part of a series of illustrations and to be part of telling a story, it looks a bit odd in isolation like this. (It looks nice when you don't put it next to anything else, but when you do, the homepage looks a bit chaotic.)

i like this a lot but i think it needs to show a lot more formats if we do this and also drop facebook :)

current list is here: https://handbook.placecal.org/admin-handbook.

could we get up to 4 each side maybe? would it be nice to show the platform logos a bit more too for that brand recognition?

should prob have ".ics" and "ld+json" added for the nerds

studiosquid commented 1 year ago

I think that risks taking it to too much detailed content? (I imagine almost anything we need might need adjustments after this time.)

Maybe this highlights that the above illustration is actually still too complicated for what David has summarised :)

Perhaps some kind of "and more..." text/graphic ?

r-ferrier commented 1 year ago

@katjam shall we just formally descope this now?

katjam commented 1 year ago

Maybe, though I think it's useful to leave it in the milestone because it's the first place we'll look when we triage for next sprint.
