Adding a section on 'current collective projects' #51

Closed undividual closed 1 year ago

undividual commented 2 years ago

We should have a section after 'how we fund out work' which covers 3 – 4 projects the collective are working on (things like I'm OK), titled 'upcoming projects we want to fund'. We should also try and keep this regularly updated with new things that are bubbling in the collective.

kimadactyl commented 2 years ago

@undividual can u fix the title for this pls? not sure what it refers to :)

undividual commented 2 years ago

I think this is clearer?! Also just what I imagined here, something to give people a sense of what kinds of work they'll be funding if they donate. Omit if you'd rather not include

aaaaargZombies commented 1 year ago
$rg -i 'client:.*"GFSC Collective' .
./content/project/trans-dimension/index.md
3:client: "GFSC Collective, Gendered Intelligence"

./content/project/taphousetvdinners/index.md
3:client: "GFSC Collective, Old Abbey Taphouse"

./content/project/dearfriend/index.md
3:client: "GFSC Collective"

./content/project/imok/index.md
3:client: "GFSC Collective and No Borders Manchester"

./content/project/placecal/index.md
3:client: "GFSC Collective, PHASE, Manchester Age Friendly Neighbourhoods"

./content/project/faceloader/index.md
3:client: "GFSC Collective"

are these all the collective projects to pick from?

Emma suggests

remove from collective projects.

add

there's also more unformed projects (could this be a nice thing for people to see as a join the collective opportunity?)

Kim talks about the scope of collective / studio being a bit messy and the volunteer paid work not being the best dividing line.

There's a wider discussion to be had about what the relationship between studio and collective is but using the projects to frame it could be useful

undividual commented 1 year ago

I would really like this in because I think it's really important that people can understand what they might be donating towards but if defining collective projects is a major blocker, then let's leave it out for now. If we decide to make a real direct fundraising push (e.g. wrt Rae's course) this will be a must IMO

kimadactyl commented 1 year ago

I think we're combining two things here

Suggest we need to add a bool for the latter?

aaaaargZombies commented 1 year ago

I'm trying to imagine where this would fit in the design. we can add donationFunded: true data to each project but does this become a separate page, maybe added to the collective page.

It could also fit nicely as a theme, then we have the UI for that already designed and we link to a filtered view of projects.

currently we have something similar on the support page, a couple of projects highlighted that we want to fund through donations.

https://gfsc.pages.dev/support/

kimadactyl commented 1 year ago

i was imagining the donationFunded stuff would show up on that page how it is now - i wasnt thinking it would require any new work but just enable us to add and remove stuff from there more easily

aaaaargZombies commented 1 year ago

at the moment we have details like that stored in the support page bundle

cat content/support/projects.md
---
title: Upcoming projects we want to fund
projects:
   - name: Faceloader
description: A simple interface to enable people to download events data from Facebook and use it in other places
   - name: I'm Ok
description: A text-based bot developed to support migrants forced to 'sign on' by the UK government
     url: /project/imok
   - name: Activist safety zine
description: A zine exploring the current state of activism in the UK and how to make it easier and safer for people to get involved
   - name: Arms Investigation
description: Investigative research into the extent of the arms trade in Greater Manchester, hopefully leading to an exhibition and/or zine (in collaboration with Manchester School of Architecture students)
---

It's easy to add stuff to and curate what/how much is displayed (too much stuff not an issue at the moment). It also handles projects that don't yet exist on our website. Drawing them from content/projects would mean we have to add a way to filter out stuff we don't want in /our-work on the site.

kimadactyl commented 1 year ago

OK i see. This is prob all fine for now but i think post launch we need to consolidate some of this stuff theres a bit too much duplication for me atm

aaaaargZombies commented 1 year ago

agreed there's a few surprise bits like this and the authors.yml

given this section also existed when @undividual made the issue I'm wondering if it doesn't solve her issue.

not a blocker for publishing for me though

kimadactyl commented 1 year ago

yeah i think i don't quite understand what this issue is now!

undividual commented 1 year ago

I'm sorry, from reading this thread at this point neither do I any more 😓 To reiterate, what I felt was: "I think it's really important that people can understand what they might be donating towards" And thus that we should list a few example projects (either already completed and funded, or in the works, either is fine) that people's donations would contribute to. If this doesnt feel possible for launch fine, but it felt to me like an important part of our donation strategy (around the time I designed this bit I was also doing Rae's course, Kim!)

kimadactyl commented 1 year ago

but that copy is there already, no? Screen Shot 2023-01-16 at 17 13 52

undividual commented 1 year ago

Hahahaha wtf I swear this wasnt there when I wrote the ticket! Then this is fine. (Though if more of them can have 'read more' links, maybe to blogs, that'd be lovely, we must have done blogs about all of these?!)

kimadactyl commented 1 year ago

Ok great lol
