protein pupylation #5872

Closed gocentral closed 9 years ago

Pupylation is the process by which the small protein Pup is conjugated to proteins through its C-terminus to a lysine epsilon-amino group of the target. This modification, analogous to ubiquitination in eukaryotes, targets proteins for degradation by archaeal-type proteasomes in Mycobacterium tuberculosis and related Actinobacteria. This term is a perfect sibling to GO:0016925, and so it should have parents GO:0032446 and GO:0043687

I suggest this formal definition:

The process by which a Pup protein is conjugated to a target protein via an isopeptide bond between the carboxyl terminus of Pup and the epsilon-amino group of a lysine residue of the target protein.
