Update GeoNetwork website contents #4415

Open MichelGabriel opened 4 years ago

I had a look at the GeoNetwork website, and I guess it could use some updates.

On the homepage it is still mentioning OpenLayers 3, while that is true for version 3.8.x and before, version 3.10.x isn't using this anymore.

It would also be nice to mention the official GeoNetwork Docker instances and link to them. Or maybe have a section of 'What's New` (or have this as a news item, now there's only announcements of a new version and a link to the release notes)

These were some things I saw at a first glance, there's probably more.

The section on analytics and usage reports is not accurate. That functionality was dropped in version 3.2.x.

The Map section could mention ESRI REST MapServer and FeatureServer now also?

Current:

The interactive map viewer based on OpenLayers provides access to OGC services (WMS, WMTS) and standards (KML, OWS). Connected to the catalog, users can easily find new services, layers and even dynamic maps to combine them together. User maps can be annotated and printed and shared with others.

I am not sure what OWS is in the above sentence: Open Web Services (OWS) is the family of standards of W*S standards...

Propose:

GeoNetwork includes an interactive Map that can be used from any record. When viewing a record press "Add to Map" next to any OGC web service (WMS, WMTS, WFS, ...) or ESRI REST service (MapService, FeatureService). A full service web mapping environment with annotations, data processing with WPS services, and more! When complete your maps can be download as a PDF for printing or open-web-context document for sharing.
