Compiling sma and smn with Lion we get transducers without error messages, and we get the .voikko/2/ catalogue filled with appropriate files. But the fat-s do not work.

This is reported here because it breaks the hfst speller.

I compiled the sma fsts with xerox and host on Lion, and got sizable transducers for both. But the host ones only give question marks. MacBook-Pro-Marina-2:~ andrej$ hfst-lookup -V hfst-lookup 0.6 (hfst 3.3.4)

We should resume work on this bug in the light of recent development. The Komi speller now works for Mountain Lion with the new infrastructure, and we should check whether it does so on Lion as well. Steps:

  1. Document setup (update the page http://giellatekno.uit.no/doc/tools/UsingVoikkoWithHfst.html )
  2. Run the steps on Lion (both in Tromsø if there are any left, and in Syktyvkar)
  3. Evaluate

Before we can get a content-evaluation, we must fix the recent bug for kpv (it worked for Sjur 25.10. but not 26.10). While waiting, we (especially you in Syktyvkar) may test to install the sma speller, to see that the setup works.

Update: By installing everything in newinfra, I get the following recognised by Voikko:

yrk nenets vep veps smj lule sma south olo livvi nio nganasa myv erzya mrj western mari mhr eastern mari kpv komi zyryan kca khanty izh ingrian fao faroese

But only sme, smj, fao actually work as spellers, and only these three are listed as options when I chose "More..." under "Set language for paragraph..."

There has been a lot of work on both the infrastructure and on Voikko since the last comment. Status is now:

All in all, what is needed is to build the LibreO plugin with hfst support, make sure things are installed in the correct places, and then test that it all works. Almost everything should be in place for working spellers now.

This was written exactly one year ago. What has happened in the meantime is that we now have alpha (almost beta) versions of the LibreOffice plugin, and if you configure your language to build spellers and you have the full $GTHOME checked out, the build system will build the LibreOffice plugin for you, both for Mac (for LibreOffice 4+) and for Windows (for LibreOffice 3.6, but not LO 4.x).

There are reported issues for the LibreOffice speller, but as far as this bug is concerned, all issues should be resolved now.
