This is a further improvement on the hierarchy, that allows for a few more top concepts and tries to ensure that all hypernyms pass the substitution test:
act, move (12985)
refer, pertain, relate, concern, come to, bear on, touch, touch on, have to do with (8)
miss, lack (7)
equal, be (51)
have, have got, hold (233)
exist, be (439)
be (65)
necessitate, ask, postulate, need, require, take, involve, call for, demand (18)
happen, hap, go on, pass off, occur, pass, fall out, come about, take place (43)
be (3)
The verb hierarchy at the moment is quite incomplete, with many verbs that could have obvious troponyms (verb hypernyms) do not have them.
This issue aims to create a hierarchy with three top verbs as follows
oewn-02372362-v
. This covers most verbs (91.8%) and describes any action performed by an agent with some temporal aspect (including a fixed start and/or end point or a regular habitual action)oewn-02610777-v
. The covers all states including equality, existence etc.I have a working proposal for this, and rough sketch of the completed verb hierarchy is as follows (number in brackets refer to the number of hyponym synsets).
