Repeatable freeze upon reciept of tweet #134

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. follow someone who has > 0 tweets
2. pidgin freezes upon receipt of tweet
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I would expect to see a tab open with received message(s) in it.

Instead, program freezes and won't respond to any input or finish gtk redraw.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
0.2.2-1 on Fedora 11 2.6.29.6-213.fc11.x86_64

Please provide any additional information below.

I have pidgin configured to play a sound when it gets a message. The sound
is played before the lockup occurs.

If I am still following anyone at boot, the freeze occurs at boot.

In all cases, unfollowing resolves the issue.

What do you mean by "> 0 tweets"?

I mean that the freeze occurs only if there are messages to be retrieved.

And this happened only on start-up?

I got tweet at start-up everyday. Everything seems fine for me.

Just another thought, can u try disable TwitterIM (either edit
.purple/accounts.xml
or trying to uncheck TwitterIM), then wait for plug-in to pull new tweets. Is it
still crash?

Also, how many people are you following?

It happens even if I only follow one person.

If I disable the twitter accounts or unfollow everyone, the freeze does not
occur.

I can't think what would be strange about my configuration. It is a 64 bit
kernel.

Oops. forget important part, after disable plug-in, re-enable the plug-in after
all
other plug-ins have finish their initialization. Then wait for new tweets.

Could you run pidgin in debug mode?

pidgin -d

Then attach output here.

Also, please try disable all plug-ins *other than* TwitterIM.

Aha!

Disabling other plugins helps. Yours was the only external plugin I was using.
I was
using

 . Buddy State Notification
 . History
 . Message Notification

I think that is all of them. Once the first new message (or messages) comes in,
it
seems to keep working. I will keep testing...

I can confirm the Aug 01 reply: Pidgin freezes for me when I have the four
plugins
enabled:

Twitgin
Buddy State
History
Message Not.

but when I disable all but Twitgin, I can connect to Twitter and receive
updates.

Im getting the same issue, but this is with the portable version.

whenever I start pidgin (v. 2.6.2 and the current twitgin) it freezes and doesnt
allow any updates or anything.
