OMB Protocol #138

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Identi.ca and Laconi.ca are services using the OMB (open microblogging)
protocol. All services using this protocol will have the same parameters
and thus the same settings to connect to them, and the "account" should
probably be labeled as such. Entering the

1. Hostname
2. Username
3. Password

Should be all that is required in order to add an OMB account such as
identi.ca. The "advanced" tab containing XML links isn't helpful, as these
will not change unless it is a HIGHLY custom install. A separate "account
type" could be created for this case.

OMB is server<->server, not server<->client.

What Daniel wishes to say, is that it should accept other servers.
this already happens (user just needs to change server field) but all other
data also
needs to be updated, cause it still calls the account Identica and links to
that server.

Yeah, I certainly had my terms wrong. Pretty sad, considering I contributed
code to
Statusnet.

What I really mean to say is that having "identi.ca" and "statusnet" options
for
accounts is redundant. Having simply "statusnet" as a choice, with a few
popular
servers (such as identi.ca) as default drop down options, and the option to put
in any
server seems to be the best choice.

This seems to be "done" in the current 0.3.0. Can some of the other posters
confirm this?

OMB was changed to OStatus since status.net 0.90. I think OMB is no more now.
Should we open new ticket with OStatus instead?

Well I think this ticket was never about OMB in the first place.
I think comment#3 sums it up ("What I really mean to say..."):
"Having simply "statusnet" as a choice..."

And this is done (as far as I could see..) - I think we can close this issue.
