What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. can enter d username to send direct message no problem
2. not receiving direct messages back

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
receipt of direct message

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
eeebuntu intrepid, Pidgin 2.5.2, plugin, mbpurple Version 0.2.0
