I can confirm this, and also that the Rhythmbox specific interface also does
not work. If you select Rhythmbox in the musictracker settings the error
message becomes:
(18:45:57) musictracker: trying 'Rhythmbox'
(18:45:57) musictracker: dbus name 'org.gnome.Rhythmbox' has an owner
(18:45:57) musictracker: Failed to get playing state from rhythmbox dbus
(Method "getPlaying" with signature "" on interface
"org.gnome.Rhythmbox.Player" doesn't exist
). Assuming player is stopped
(18:45:57) musictracker: Rhythmbox,,,,0

I can confirm problem this either, on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with its default
rhythmbox and musictracker:
17:37:03) musictracker: trying 'Rhythmbox'
(17:37:03) musictracker: dbus name 'org.gnome.Rhythmbox' has no owner
(17:37:03) musictracker: Getting info failed. Setting empty status.

Confirming this. Please provide us with instructions on how we can investigate
what's wrong on our own. I'll try to hack on it a bit. I'm using Ubuntu 12.04
LTS + Rhythmbox. It doesn't work.

I think that rhythmbox plugin is just another piece of software, and has
nothing to do with pidgin-musictracker.

1. This is a duplicate of #268 (it was opened five days earlier than this).
2. This is super annoying.
