High CPU usage #55

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. just install it default
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Looking for 5% cpu overhead... getting around a 20% increase... my average
with rainmeter installed is 33%... before it: 12%

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
latest version on Vista 32bit & up-to-date patches.

Please provide any additional information below. If the problem is a
related to some config option attaching a example is always a good idea.
Try to keep it as simple as possible and make sure that it is a fully
working Rainmeter config (i.e. it includes all graphics too).

Please provide as much detail as possible about the system you are running on
(CPU,Memory,Graphics Card) and the theme you are running (screen shot with all
windows minimized would be helpful)

Do you have AVG?

AVG, for some reason, constantly scans Rainmeter files. If you add the Rainmeter
folder to your exception list, your CPU usage should drop! :D

Since Mr.ikjadoon pointed this out on the forum, I have also tested with
Webroot,
Norton Anti-Virus, AVG Free, IoBit, and Comodo.

To some extent Ikjadoon's findings are correct to some extent with all
Anti-Virus,
and some firewalls.

The two worst are AVG Free, and WebRoot.

An exception listed to the AV cleared up the issue quickly.

Great work Ikjadoon

Oh, hey, no problem, glad I actually did something! :D

Yeah, I'm a stickler about performance; AVG Resident Shield was going wacko.
Glad
it's fixed! :D

Thanks everyone, I will try this and let you know what happens. By the way I'm
using Kaspersky.

The confirmed issue that except the defect of the program itself or except the
setting mistake, probably, such a issue should be added to WIKI as a warning to
a user.

Are you sure that Rainmeter is the cause? If so, have you tried with only one
or two skins?
