Thank you for your submission @khalidalabdullah! We will have a look soon, I'll let you know!
@khalidalabdullah thanks for submitting this. I asked around (as I am far from qualified to comment on Arabic typeface design :) and I heard this is a "mostly consistently" Kufi design, but a few letters completely stand out of the crowd; if you can address these concerns by redesigning some letters to make the typeface higher quality, I am willing to accept it - the style will be a unique addition to the Google Fonts library :)
See for example this selected glyph, and the second to its right:
If you can make some updates, then I'll ask @yanone to review further, including technical details :)
@davelab6 many thanks for your comments. I am very happy to know that the font could qualify for the Google Fonts library. The “non-Kufi” characters were intentionally included. The design is a deliberate breakage from the “kufi” paradigm as outlined in the description of the font on my Github page. The font was named Gharbi to signify the influence of the Latin script on contemporary Arabic typestyles, which I think is truer than referencing “kufi” as most other fonts do, such as the Droid Kufi font.
The idea of combining non-kufi shapes in the design was influenced by a successful design made specifically for the Kuwaiti Alqabas newspaper and copied by others for its appeal. The Alqabas design has some problems of its own which is also why I wanted to make a higher quality font while keeping to the idea. While trying to achieve the pleasant effect of combining non-kufi shapes in a mostly “kufi” design I was aware that some might not be totally comfortable with the deviation, so I included the familiar kufic glyphs (for the heh that was highlighted at least) in the Stylistic Sets.
I personally think that the design will lose its quality if I fully revert to the familiar kufi shapes throughout the design, but I will try to investigate the issue and see if there is a way to address it.

Still working on the font and adding value by making it a variable font, and probably also support for Urdu.
Hey @davelab6 ! I've committed the updated version of the Gharbi font to GitHub. This version is variable and additionally covers Urdu. Hope your team can check it out soonest. Best regards.
@khalidalabdullah sorry we lost track of this over the summer. Our arabic specialist @yanone is away for about 3 weeks but when he gets back I'll ask him to review the latest work :) Tagging as needing confirmation from him now

@yanone, could you please take a look at this one ;)
The main issue that we took with some of the letter shapes have been resolved. In many details the font doesn't meet our specs, but can be brought up to speed rather quickly.
I could onboard it and will remove the "Needs confirmation" label.
Font Project Git Repo URL:

By filling this issue, you can confirm the project meets the requirements (by ticking the cases or putting x between the square brackets in text mode):
Attach here a pic or a screenshot of the font. One image is enough, it can be a few letters, to give a quick overview.
