FIFOPi/ Transporter issue #3

Does anyone have a solution regarding the pop / switch noise present when starting tracks on Ian Canada’s FiFoPi Transport combination? (I can see from other forums others have the same issue too). This seems peculiar to the FIFO/transporter and doesn’t occour on either of my two HiFiBerry pro transports or my Allo Digi One set ups. (All powered by custom built power supplies not, the RPi supply).

The noise is highly annoying on what is my most expensive, best sounding but currently frustrating transport by far. DACs range from Arcam D33, Audiolab M-DAC to Arcam Black Box 1 and Marantz CDA 94 and the pop is present on all of them regardless of what input (optical or wired) I use or sample rate.

Ian’s transport is powered separately to the RPi both fed from an SMPS feeding 5v to the Raspberry Pi and a 12v supply to dual 5v regulators to the FIFO/Transport set up.

An old thread on another forum I found quickly drifted off topic without a resolution being found.

Have others here experienced this issue and if so did anyone ever get to the bottom of this? If it was resolved please would you share what the solution is?

Kind regards Brian

Hi Brian,

FifoPiQ7 has a new continuous clock mode to solve the problem. Did you try Q7? https://github.com/iancanada/DocumentDownload/blob/master/FifoPi/FifoPiQ7/FifoPiQ7Manual.pdf
