Looks like a very declarative language. I wonder how much confusion there would really be.
I guess it's up to indutny, and how attached he is to the name. Not too late to change it though.
Yes, but you hadn't surprised me! I knew and used graphviz format for quite a reasonable time, but thought that issue won't arise.
We've discussed naming issue with @creationix on the #dotlang channel, and came to the name Candor ( and .can
for script files). Though this naming looks awesome to me, I'm still open for voting or any other ideas.
I like "Candor", it's a noun that can mean "complete honesty" or "easy attitude", or "truthfulness, candidness" which all fit well with the aims of the project. Simplicity and ease of use are honest. The developer isn't deceived by heavy layers of abstraction. What you see is what you get. http://thesaurus.com/browse/candor
Also the .can extension is very obscure. Shouldn't be any conflicts there. http://filext.com/file-extension/CAN
Also it's a very open word on google search. The top 5 results on mine are dictionaries. There is these guys http://www.candor.com/, but they look pretty small.
I'll keep this issue open until tomorrow (my time, about 12 hours later), if no comments will arise - project will be renamed to Candor as was proposed here.
Renaming it, project will be accessible at https://github.com/indutny/candor
You're going to have heartache because of the name clash with: http://www.graphviz.org/content/dot-language from AT&T's graphviz project.
