Some notes...
Have a "performance" section in user manual about how to get reasonable performance, linking to the developer manual for people who need more.
* Need a weave-compatible C compiler
- OpenMP on multi-core machine: good multithreaded performance requires machine with separate memory subsystem for each core (e.g. xeon). Only affects certain optimized routines (search for cfs_loop_pragma to find them)
- 64 bit machine for big networks needing more than about 3 Gb memory
- Can write optimizations in Cython or C (see developer manual)
