Out of the blue, my SS install came back up after a restart today with wiped config data.
I went to go and reconfigure everything so I had a password generator create a new password for the server (I needed to change it anyway). I figured out that if you enter chars that are not acceptable (either reserved or other), even in the password field, the SS process will crash on the system and will not restart itself. I have to use systemctl via SSH to restart the process.
