Homemade baby puffs #8

Open iteles opened 2 years ago

Baby puffs are sold everywhere in every country and are super popular because they are an easy grab-n-go snack that makes practically zero mess and the baby can serve themselves and hold their snacks all by their lonesome.

This kind of thing: image

I'm not a fan of hidden ingredients but especially not a fan of the mega packaging, so I though we would do well to try our own.

A quick google has yielded two recipes we can try to start:

  1. https://whatgreatgrandmaate.com/healthy-homemade-baby-puffs/ I'm thinking apple sauce (which we already have frozen), pear & a little kale and a starter.

  2. https://feedingtinybellies.com/strawberry-kiwi-puffs/

Note: the size of the puffs is extremely important in order to guarantee proper cooking.

You have made a few batches of these puffs already and our "tester" loves them: 😋

Would be good to add more scientific "experiment log" of ingredients/quantities, processing, cooking and results. 💭 Also the amount of time it takes to make a batch from scratch. ⏳

I made a batch of applesauce (homemade in the Bimby) and spinach. 🍎 🍃 I also used chia eggs (with milled chia seeds) because I didn't have flax seeds. ⚫

I tried making them in the Vitamix but ended up having to add about 3 tablespoons of water because the mixture was so thick that the vitamix couldn't deal with it. Will try in the nutribullet to see if it makes any difference, but this was just the right amount for the mixture in the end.

It looks like if we're going to make some extra to freeze, then it's best to make sure we're using at least one 'creamy' fruit like banana or peach or even kiwi.

This is an example of just berries (blueberries and strawberries) and it looses a lot in the defrosting process. The texture is grainy, not very pleasant and doesn't stick together very well:

@Stephanymtr You have a LOT of experience in these now 😅 what would you add here?

Most recent puff flavor we tried: pumpkin! Alex seems to really enjoy it.

Just realized there was a question there for me. Answer: I would add some extra binding ingredient and stay away from the berries combo 😆
