Assertion failed when manually removing an engine from searchplugins directory #58

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
If you manually remove a XML file in the Firefox searchplugins directory,
you get an "Assertion failed" error.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install any search engine.
2. Go to your Profile "searchplugins" dir. Remove the file that was just added.
3. Open Organize Search Engines UI.

Actual result:
An "assertion failed" error shows up (see attachment)
Restarting Firefox doesn't solve the problem. The only solution is to
restore the file and delete it properly from Organize Search Engines UI.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system and
Firefox version?
Using Ubuntu 8.10 64bits. Tested on two version: the 3.0.14 coming with the
system and a self-compiled 3.5.3.

What other add-ons are you using?
None on the test profile used for this report.

The underlying issue seems to be in Firefox code, from the stack trace in your
screenshot. Do you also get such an error message without Organize Search
Engines,
maybe when using the "Restore Default Engine" option in Firefox? (I'm gonna
check
myself, but this might take quite some time.)

For the lack of a response, I'll close this issue. I'll reopen it if
information turns up that this indeed is a bug in Organize Search Engine.
