View menu in main gui window #88

From discussion on IRC, user Kazuma wants more of a minimalist gui. A
compromise to this would be to create a view menu where the user can choose
whether the toolbar and filter box should be displayed.

Assigning this to Tillin9 since he's been doing a lot of gui cleanup lately.
Tillin,
is this something you'd be willing to implement?

I have no problem with a minimalist GUI option. What exactly do you mean by a
view
menu, just a menu to select what GUI components are viewed? From IRC it seemed
that
Kazuma just didn't want to see the toolbar.

By view menu, I mean a menu named "View" that contains checkbox menu items such
as
"Toolbar", "Rom Filter", and "Status bar". By default, both of these are
checked, but
if they are unchecked by the user, the corresponding widget disappears from the
gui
display and the rom browser fills up the space that was there.

Kazuma's a minimalist, but not everyone else is. I suggested the view menu as a
compromise so minimalists could remove things from the gui. Kazuma said this
approach
would suit his needs.

Okay, this should be very easy to implement codewise. I'm somewhat hesitant to
add
a menu for just the

- Toolbar
- Filter
- Status bar

Thinking a Configuration Tab might be better. However, depending on the final
configuration of the Debugger / VCR GUI options, a menu may be more
appropriate.

Setting to low priority.

I see a renewed use for this. Now with the debugger being brought back into the
trunk, I'm planning a rewrite of the debugger GUI.

Once the 1.4 release is locked down, I want to scrap the extra windows, and move
everything to a dock able interface. As well, we've added enough new features
to the
debugger that there are far too many windows for the whole thing to be
manageable.
Basically, for the debugger alone, we NEED a view menu to be able to turn extra
windows on or off.
