It's a feature introduced a couple of updates ago where the new moon makes the environment darker. It's not actually black, but it can be very dark for some monitors.
In a future update, it will be optional and will be left disabled by default.
Problem is, you don't see shiii even when in a room full of torches soo how is that suppose to be fun and useful?
I understand that it could be a feature but seriously, you don't see any light source, even when holding torches or place them, don't even see stars or mood itself.
Even on the second screenshot I've provided, you can see small patches of star's

So, make sure you are using the latest version of the shader. That shouldn't happen in the latest versions, but I remember it was an issue in older versions.
Use 9.0 or higher.
Ohh didn't know that 9.0 version also works on 1.20.1
For some odd reasons, whenever new moon hits, screen turns black no matter what... Lights are not visible, and it affects it globaly which means that no matter where you are, you will get black sceen if there is new moon in overworld
