Plugin logic could probably be wrapped into a single function. Should we also remove the options to enable/disable loading of plugins since it won't break if they aren't available?

I'm just a sysadmin, just do coding on the side. If you can make things nicer I'm all for it. I don't see any reason why we would need those options with what you had planned. I'm going to push what I did earlier to a topic branch so you can merge it all together.
