Are there any USB controllers you would recommend as virtual joysticks or similar, with default settings?

I've tried different USB controllers, but none are perfect, not even the Xbox Series X controller. I find that one controller causes certain games with joystick support to behave properly, while others do not, while another controller causes other games with joystick support to behave properly. What I'm wondering is if anyone here knows if there is a bug free USB controller that is like a virtual DOS/Pre-Vista only controller that makes all games with joystick support behave properly in joystick mode, while the joystick sector in the configuration files is in the same default setting as when DOSBox-X was pre-installed - or recently unpacked, if not I also agree to reconfigure in the joystick section. By the way, it would be nice to have a list of USB controllers that behave 100% perfectly, as well as how the joystick section should be set for each specific controller.

Be aware that if you change cycles while playing a game, the calibration will become wrong.

There really isn't much that you can do but find out the proper cycles before playing the game.

You can check this behavior very easily with some joystick test programs:

• start the joystick test program
• calibrate your joystick as best as you can
• now change the cycles, see the input behaving erratically
