torrent seeding speed 'capped' #211

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. updating to RT-N56U_1.0.1.8e-p2.zip
2. running uTorrent stress test with 59 torrents seeding
3. torrent seeding speed seems to be 'capped'

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
on stock firmware my seeding can reach 1 to even 2MB/sec. on
RT-N56U_1.0.1.8e-p2.zip it is 'limited' at 400-450KB/sec max. doesn't go beyond.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
RT-N56U_1.0.1.8e-p2.zip.

Please provide any additional information below.

Hi there,

The details are required! (your internet connection type, syslog file, config
details etc). 'on stock firmware my seeding can reach 1 to even 2MB/sec' - I'm
very happy about that, but this info tells me nothing.

Hello!

With 'connection type' I mean - 'DHCP', 'Static ip', 'PPPoE', 'PPtP', 'L2TP'
and so on.
Syslog file can be downloaded via WEB GUI
(http://my.router/Main_LogStatus_Content.asp - click 'Save' there)

Config details: What machine do you use for torrent downloads/seeding? - Is it
a router itself with the USB disk, connected to it or another machine? if
second - How is this host connected to the router? If it is wired connection -
is it 100Mbit/s or 1000Mbit/s? If it is wireless connection - is it 2.4HGz or
5HGz radio? what channel? Is it 'clean'? Is 'IGMP Snooping' switched to On or
Off for this radio? etc

Using Static IP.
Attached my Syslog.

I'm using an i7 with 8GB RAM, 5 HDDs including one SSD. Using uTorrent 3.1.2 I
set the cache to 512MB and I never get "Disk overloaded ever"

I'm using a wired connection at 1000Mbit/s.

Thank you!
Why don't you use HW_NAT? (Sorry, couldn't see anything more helpful with this
log, as it is filled only with upnpd actions...)))

am currently back on stock firmware. As long as i disable any QoS features it
should revert to HW NAT right? is there anyway to force HW NAT to be on?

Original comment by thet...@gmail.com on 12 Apr 2012 at 9:09

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Right. There is no QoS support in custom firmware. It had been removed, because
it doesn't work actually. Sorry, I mean it can't work with HW_NAT. And that
way, as it is written by Asus it doesn't work properly (even if HW NAT is off).
BTW, have you tried the 3rd version of Asus stock firmware (RT-N56U_3.0.0.3)?

so my HW NAT is definitely on right?

I like the custom firmware by padavan but i'll only use it if i can resolve
this torrent upload issue..

and where can i get 3.0.0.3?

I do not remember the logic of stock firmware now, but you can check HW state
here - http://my.router/Main_IPTStatus_Content.asp

wtf!!!

Hardware NAT: Disabled
Software QoS: Disabled

How do i enable hardware NAT on stock firmware? LOL

Original comment by thet...@gmail.com on 12 Apr 2012 at 5:19

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
ok i managed to enable Hardware NAT by turning off wireless multicast, and
disabling all QoS.

Is the 3.0.0.3 firmware as new as 1.0.1.8.e?

Original comment by thet...@gmail.com on 12 Apr 2012 at 5:46

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Yes, it is. Actually, you know, it is completely different firmware by Asus. It
is much better, than 1.0.0.x, but still there is much to do... Furthermore, it
has the new black web interface. v.3.0.0.3 is non public yet, it is for tests.
Please remember, if you'd decide to try it, and then you'd like to return to
1.0.0.x versions - DO hard reset. There are some values in nvram, which are
critical for 1.0.0.x.

cool stuff.. 3.0.0.3 seemed a little buggy tho.. applied settings and it got
stuck here and there.. i'm back on P2... running Hardware NAT.. will monitor..

Hmmm.. So does anyone have any idea why my upload is stuck at 400KB/sec? Can it
be resolved in the next version? I don't get this ceiling at all on stock
firmware

Maybe turn off 'Fast nat' if it's switched On now...

Original comment by d...@soulblader.com on 13 Apr 2012 at 4:50

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
hmmm.. fast NAT wasn't switched on before... and it still had this problem..

well, I don't know the reason then... Some tests are needed on the client side.
(utorrent or other application you're using and OS environment)
