Gap/lag/electric sound when using gapless playblack

There is a obvious gap when using gapless playback on my pixel 2 xl. The songs and gapless feature work fine on my Nexus 6p, please fix it :3

Phonograph is such a good app I cannot use my Android phone without it, thank you!!

The gap is annoying with the song that connects to the next song, if the song ends with silence the gapless feature always works fine.

I can't notice a gap when enabling this feature on my device (BQ Aquaris X Pro with Lineage) but for me the volume of the first song (after app startup) is lower than normal. After that, the feature works as expected. Also the audio quality is poor for the first song. Maybe the described problem above and mine are indicators that this feature needs a rework. Is there a tracking issue for collecting known problems with the gapless playback feature?

Edit: I'm using FLAC for my audio files. Other problems here seem to be related to mp3
