I can confirm that v0.9 misbehaves on a direct connection of an external Firewire 800 drive to a Mac Mini 2012 running either 10.9.4 or 10.9.5. If connected to a running machine, volume fails to mount. If an external FW drive is running at boot, startup will hang. This behavior does not occur with SATSMART v0.8.
I'm sorry to hear that 0.9 does not work for you. Version 0.9 first probes for JMicron chip and then tries SAT16 mode and SAT12 mode as the last resort. Version 0.8 basically used SAT12 mode, since SAT16 was broken. It is possible that JMicron probe or SAT16 mode causes problems.
I changed the probe order to sat12,sat16,jmicron. Please try the version 0.10-Debug to see if did any change.
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. The 0.10 debug driver fixes my problem. Thanks!

Thanks for testing the new version. Would you tell the vendor/product ids for the enclosure, so I'll add them to the list of known devices ?
SATSMARTDriver v0.10: enclosure 'Unknown 0424:2228', disk serial ...
Where would I find that information? On Oct 5, 2014 11:32 PM, "Jarkko Sonninen" notifications@github.com wrote:

There are instructions in issue #6 on how to see kernel logs.
Hi, hopefully you can see something in the logs...
Testing a FireWire drive connected via Apple Thunderbolt Display
After boot the FireWire drive does not appear in Disk Utility and System Information > FireWire shows:
FireWire Bus:
Maximum Speed: Up to 800 Mb/sec
No change after cycling power on drive.
Booting with drive off then powering on drive
Disk Utility shows:
System information > FireWire shows: There was an error while gathering FireWire bus information.
Booting powered on system.log
Booting powered off system.log
