Unable to access the X Display, is $DISPLAY set properly? #63

Hi all- very, very new to the world of programming languages; I've just started using Ubuntu for my work as I need it to run a python program (FSLeyes, for neuroimaging) on my Windows laptop (Dell Latitude E6330). After much trial and tribulation, it actually worked - running 'fsleyes' in the command line ran the program. However, on subsequent attempts, it gives me the 'Unable to access the X Display, is $DISPLAY set properly?' message when I attempt the same command. Would anyone know what might be going on, and how to fix it? Thanks so much!

bzier commented 4 years ago

Hi @rogerburtonpatel, I'm not sure what exactly led you to this repository (except perhaps a similar issue referencing X Display). However, this repository is for a project for self-driving Mario Kart using machine learning.

I would suggest checking for information regarding your issue at the project page for FSLeyes here: https://git.fmrib.ox.ac.uk/fsl/fsleyes/fsleyes/-/issues If you can't find the relevant information there, that's probably also the right place to open a new issue and ask there. They will have the context for that application and can probably be much better help.

Thanks! Fixed it- turns out Ubutnu wasn't automatically opening Xming, which is needed to run Fsl and all derivatives. Appreciate it!

Can you tell me here, how you resolved this issue, step by step. I have trying to install FSL through WSL, and finally after four days it happened but I cant run the command fsleyes as I get the same error every time, Unable to access the X Display, is $DISPLAY set properly?. I have downloaded Xming as well. But cannot connect them.

Need help.

I had the same issue, so try closin UBUNTU, open Xming and set it up again. once set up, open ubuntu again and it should work perfectly. (let me know if it didn't)

Hello What kind of configuration did you use it? I have the same problem and no idea how to fix it

Hi, I did this and it is still not working. I am not sure what I need to do with Xming? I deleted and unistalled and installed again and it said that it already exists. Do you suggest anything

Hello, You can try following the steps in "WSL 2 changes provisional" in this link https://fsl.fmrib.ox.ac.uk/fsl/fslwiki/FslInstallation/Windows#WSL_2_Changes_.28_provisional_.29

It worked for me with VcXsrv instead of Xming.

Thanks.

Hi thank you. Now it says "Authorization required but no authorization protocol specified."

ajhelum commented 3 years ago

Hii, I don't quite follow on this part, I did stagger with the installation for almost a month and this finally happened for me, without any requirement for authorization. After installing VcXsrv when you open XLaunch, you need to select the requirements as said in the link which I provided and then it should be open. After this when you launch FSL from your terminal, the FSL software will open. Can you send a screenshot here? I am not sure how much I will be able to help, but I can try!

Thanks.

Hello,

The only thing I can think of, is installing the FSL properly, somehow the fslstart is not happening. Did you follow the exact I instructions from running fslinstaller.py to changing the .bashrc?

If yes, then my suggestion would be moving to VMware, maybe. Sorry couldn't think of anything more.

Thanks!

Thank you! I started the process for VMware-I am trying to find what VMware does but I cannot find an exact description of what it provides the user. Do you know if I would be able to do analysis/preprocessing/pipelines etc. with just the FSL virtual macine?

ajhelum commented 3 years ago

You can do analysis/preprocessing/pipeline in FSL and for FSL to run in a Windows system you need a platform like WSL or VM. So you can access FSL if you have any of the two platforms. You can find tutorial videos in YouTube for more guidance.

Thanks.
