Even though I have "Open Keybase on startup" de-selected in my settings, the program still starts up in the taskbar tray.

hmm, do you have a shortcut called GuiStartup in %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup ? If so, delete it, and switch the setting in the GUI on and off again.

This is also true for the macOS client.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Launch Keybase.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Advanced
  3. Find the option "Open Keybase on startup" and uncheck it.
  4. Select the Keybase icon in the menu bar: keybase-menu-bar
  5. Select the hamburger menu icon: hamburger-menu-icon
    1. Select "Quit Keybase"
    2. Repeat steps 1 and 2.
    3. "Open Keybase on startup" is checked again. Setting was not persisted.

Confirmed issue is occurring on Mac still:

Keybase GUI Version: 5.2.0-20200130011203+cf82db8320

This issue is on the KeyBase desktop app for MacOS.

Every time I turn off "Open Keybase at startup" in "Settings" -> "Advanced", it seems to do nothing. Next time I restart my computer, it starts automatically and reverts that setting back to checked.

I am still experiencing this issue as described in the reports by @jsejcksn and @blizzrdof77 above.

Keybase macOS client version: 5.3.0-20200310172631+4f2689009b

I just submitted feedback via the Settings tab in the app.
