Problems with chained Thunderbolt displays and MBP #137

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Set system audio to Soundflower (2ch)
2. Change Soundflower (2ch) to send audio to first Thunderbolt display in the
chain

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect sound to work on the first Thunderbolt display in the chain, but it
does not.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Two 27" Thunderbolt displays, 15-inch Late 2011 MBP, OSX 10.7.4

Please provide any additional information below.
Interestingly enough, if I switch the audio to the second display in the chain
it works on that Thunderbolt display. Also, if I use system sound (bypassing
Soundflower) it works on both.

Thanks for taking the time to look in to this.

Well, interesting change of events. It appears to work this morning, and I
think I tracked down why. Maybe this is an intended feature, or an already
known bug.

Yesterday, on the primary Thunderbolt display I was getting no audio. So I
switched to that device for output, bypassing Soundflower, and used it. When I
came in to my office this morning, the volume was turned up on my primary
Thunderbolt display, after sending output to Soundflower, it worked.

It looks like to get Soundflower to work on the Thunderbolt displays, I need to
first switch to the displays as the primary output device and then crank the
volume up. I can then switch to Soundflower and control the volume on the
devices. It's kind of strange, but explains the issue I ran in to.

I hope this helps!
