Feature request- escape and control keys #228

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. No Escape or CTRL (^) key support when using Bluetooth or keyboard dock with
iPad or iPhone
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Tried using the bullet key as described in some earlier posts to implement a
CTRL D, CTRL A and CTRL E shortcuts, but I must be entering them incorrectly if
this feature is still configurable. Would prefer to see these implemented
under Gestures for soft keyboard. Would like to see more external keyboard
support in this as well. I do sysadmin work and am trying to reduce the
hardware I carry. I can't use vim or nano without ctrl and escape
functionality...

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
terminal 4.7.2 on iOS 3.2.2 iPad.

Please provide any additional information below.

nano works just fine for me, •X behaves like CTRL-X
• is found at ".?123", "#+=", •

By the way, the is only one existing editor, nano, and it's old brother, pico...
What should this "vim" be? (Insider joke...hope you got that one;))

By the way r472 is not eaqual to 4.7.2, as r472 just means the 472nd release
while 4.7.2 means "fourth major, seventh minor, second under" (I don't know why
the last is called under, please don't ask"

So while the changes from r399 to r400 could just be code cleanup, which the
user doesn't know about, the changes from 3.x to 4.x are major, see iOS 3 vs
iOS 4.

A revision number is generally not identified as "the new big update", but
those are often uploaded as compiled binaries, meaning those are stable versions

There is no "dot" key on my keyboard. How do I add it? Using 472 on an iPad.

No idea why its not there on the iPad (but yeah i've seen this).

External keyboard functionality seems like it should be its own bug -- and the
code for it should likely be written by someone who has one of these external
keyboards (I don't have one).

I'll mark this as Won't Fix until external Keyboard support is officially on
our TODO
