Time limit on voting? #243

As discussed at length now, our voting system has a few potential downfalls: 1.) Nothing but downvotes 2.) Mass voting for boks 3.) Cost vs earn for voting 4.) Voting bots Maybe one way of helping the situation is to limit the speed at which people can vote. Even if it's something very short, like 1 vote every 5-10 seconds. That's already enough to prevent me from mass voting. If I can't vote en mass, it allows us to pay for upvotes and downvotes without fear that people will vote simply for the boks. It also makes voting bots much less efficient and maybe not worth the effort. And it helps to balance the upvote/downvote ratio since those with skin in the game can't just downvote everything in sight. And an ancillary benefit - it might encourage people to actually look at rants.

Do it. But the amount of time is critical. Probably under 5 seconds so as to not annoy the shit out of people.

Potentially related bit of info about a reddit competitor:

WhoaVerse has built-in mechanisms for vote manipulation prevention. New user accounts are unable to downvote submissions unless they have at least 20 Comment Contribution Points (CCP) and they are limited to 10 upvotes per day. Another feature which sets WhoaVerse apart from similar platforms is its redesigned user profiles area, which displays the comment and submission history for a user. WhoaVerse user profiles do not have voting buttons which helps reduce "downvote attacks".
