More sensible defaults for all audiences (TM) #1

Not everyone has a 1tb RAM computer! (Actually neither do we -- either PFBITS=28 or IXTYPE=uint32_t would fit in under 512gigs, but not both!).

I was intending to get it running on a supercomputer first with what you had recommended and later on switching it back. But now that it is running we can have it have the sensible defaults.
