Metadata for aiff+cue files #94

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open aiff containing several tracks (with artist, album, tracks names, year
metadata)+cue file
2. Got only tracks names metadata
3. After splitting to a folder then open this folder as a Disk, got all metadata

How about the reproducibility (always, sometimes, rarely, ...)? always

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? latest

Please provide any additional information below.
XLD should collect all metadata for all tracks for bin+cue file, not only track
names, as does for open folder as a disc.

bin+cue? AIFF?

I guess you are trying to open aiff+cue with "Open Raw PCM" menu. It is a wrong
operation.

You guessed wrong!

Then what format did you open? bin+cue? aiff+cue?

Yes, as explained.

When opening a single AIFF image + cue, metadata is mainly read from .cue, not
AIFF. This is because a single AIFF file cannot contain metadata for multiple
tracks.

After splitting the image, each file has a metadata.

So... why does not XLD add the metadata (present in cue or whatever) in each
splitted file? I mean Track Name, Artist, Album, Year, etc.

Thanks anyway

XLD does add metadata if the source file has or you enter manually.

Enter manually? Done that already in audio editor before saving.
You missed the point, I am afraid.

Let me give a bit more detail:

Case 1-
Usually I split the tracks into a folder (the cue is embedded), then in XLD's
Menu "File-> Open Folder as a Disc..." I get the files in that folder with
complete metadata ready to convert. No need to enter manually/automatically
nothing more. ( Let's say: Artist, Album, Track Name, and production Year).
Thats OK!

Case 2-
Some times I do Not want split the tracks. Gapless live albums are an example.
Then in XLD Menu "File->Open Raw PCM (bin+cue) OR "File->Open" the only
metadata XLD gets is the Track Name, although the cue is embedded as in Case 1
and has the complete metadata. Thats NOT OK! (IMHO).

The point is (IMHO):
WHY does XLD miss the metadata in Case 2? It shouldn't.

Let's call it a "feature request" if you may prefer.

Thank you for your support

>Usually I split the tracks into a folder (the cue is embedded)
How do you embed .cue for split files?

>WHY does XLD miss the metadata in Case 2?
At least when I save a single disc image + cue with XLD and open it again with
XLD, XLD reads metadata correctly. How did you create the image?

>although the cue is embedded as in Case 1
The format which can embed .cue is limited. For example, AIFF and bin (which
you mention is this issue) cannot embed .cue in the file.

Instructions:
1.png : Rip disc as a single file
2.png : Open saved .cue
3.png : Metadata correctly reconstructed
