Thank you for making these changes. However I have completely reimplemented the majority of the scanning functionality for the upcoming 1.4 release. Unfortunately, the code you were changing no longer exists in that release which makes it practically impossible to merge these changes.

I don't have a set date yet. The only thing I can say that I am working on it.
