Software Sources in Update Manager default to US mirrors even though I am in UK with a UK IP address. #11872

Bug description

When using the Update Manger to select the optimum software source both the Main and Base mirror selections present only US mirrors. This issue was fixed in late 21.1 but has re-occurred in 21.2 The US mirrors are considerably slower than those in the UK and Europe.

Steps to reproduce

Open Update Manager. Go to 'Edit'/'SoftwareSources' Authenticate Click on the mirror selection for either Main or Base. All sources presented are in the US.

Expected behavior

Mirror lists should present European mirrors (for my location) . In general, the source mirrors should be appropriate to the user's location.

I have similar problem too on Linux Mint 21.3. I have setup geographical location Indonesia during installing Linux Mint 21.3, but unfortunately (sometimes) Mint Software Sources select mirror from US (instead local mirror e.g Indonesia). @clefebvre what do you think? you must fix annoying bug in Mint Software Source shipped with Linux Mint 22 released in mid 2024.
