@RDYork First, that's a good movie! I was just transcoding it (again) last night. Second, has this problem happened before?
I don't see anything wrong with your command line, i.e. your use of options and arguments. But I need to know more about your environment. Please add the following options to your command line: -vv --dry-run
and paste the console output, properly formatted, into this issue. Thanks.
Note: The -vv
options (prefixed with a single dash) increases the verbosity level twice in order to get debugging information. The --dry-run
option (prefixed with two dashes) prints the actual command to HandBrakeCLI
but doesn't execute it.
@RDYork BTW, if you don't get any result with those additions to your command line, please give me version information for your HandBrakeCLI
and ruby
executables. Thanks.
Ok, point-by-point.... This has happened sporadically in the past, but re-entering the command (vs. using the up arrow) usually fixes it. I DID reenter the entire command, with minor edits to the audio track descriptions, and it ran ok. Following is that code....
transcode-video --add-audio 2="Producers Commentary" --add-audio 3="Directors Commentary" --no-log --quick --output /Users/randall/Movies/Sky\ Captain\ and\ the\ World\ of\ Tomorrow\ (2004)/Sky\ Captain\ and\ the\ World\ of\ Tomorrow\ (2004).mkv --crop 0:0:0:0 /Users/randall/Movies/Sky\ Captain\ and\ the\ World\ of\ Tomorrow\ (2004)/title00.mkv
Here is the output of the command with "-v --dry-run" added
Randalls-iMac:~ randall$ transcode-video --add-audio 2="Producers Commentary" --add-audio 3="Directors Commentary" --no-log --quick -vv --dry-run --output /Users/randall/Movies/Sky\ Captain\ and\ the\ World\ of\ Tomorrow\ (2004)/Sky\ Captain\ and\ the\ World\ of\ Tomorrow\ (2004).mkv --crop 0:0:0:0 /Users/randall/Movies/Sky\ Captain\ and\ the\ World\ of\ Tomorrow\ (2004)/title00.mkv transcode-video 0.19.0 Copyright (c) 2013-2018 Don Melton HandBrake 1.1.0 found... ruby 2.5.1p57 (2018-03-29 revision 63029) [x86_64-darwin17] and HandBrake 1.1.0
I have gone back and listened to the original Vector 22 podcast several time and learn something new each time. I have also listened to the recent Vectors with you and Renee.
God Bless, Randall
@RDYork So the command transcoded correctly now after you retyped it? If so, that's good. Because I don't see anything wrong with the (nicely formatted!) diagnostic information you provided. In fact, your environment is very similar to mine.
Thanks for listening to my podcasts, sir! I'm actually think about starting a new one dedicated to transcoding. Would you be interested in listening to something like?
Would you be interesting in something like? Absolutely!!! Thanks for your help. Have a great (rest of the) weekend
@RDYork You are very welcome, sir! And thanks for the feedback on the podcast idea.
I'll close this issue now since you've resolved it yourself. But feel free to comment again here or open other issues as necessary.
Upfront: I am not a programmer, nor a power CLI user. I have a novice understanding of Unix/Linux.
When I input the following command:
Terminal just returns with a ">" prompt.
I have used "transcode-video" quite a bit (over 30 movies so far) and have only experienced this recently.
Any/all help would be gratefully accepted
Randall
