The Problem The new Livepeer.org website is currently only available in English limiting the audience to only English speakers.

Solution To help expand the reach of the Livepeer.org site, the Livepeer grants committee is interested in funding translation grants for the following languages: Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, German, Russian, and Portuguese.

Proposal Hi @nelsorya & @adamsoffer, I'd like to propose our services for the translation of the Livepeer.org pages listed above into the requested languages, i.e. Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, German, Russian, Portuguese and Russian.

Background & Skill Since 2006, I run a side-business that includes a Translation Agency. My team is made of professional remote translators who are able to take this on. In the past, we've handled the proofreading of the Chinese translation of the Livepeer whitepaper via a grant.

Personally, I also run a Livepeer transcoder.

Timeframe 2-3 weeks total per language: We can translate into all/different languages concurrently, but I suggest that we start with one or two languages first and then extend the grant for the other languages afterwards.

Hey @ChuckChain - thanks again for reaching out about this! We're excited to open up the website to more languages. We'd like to prioritize Chinese (Mandarin) and then Spanish. I'm not sure what your rate is, but the committee is offering $500 in LPT per language (there are about 3000 words on the website so this this comes out to about $0.17/word). We understand your rates may vary based on the language being translated so let if it's higher for some languages compared to others let us know 👍

Ok, we'll start with Chinese and Spanish. For Chinese, I'm assuming we're to go with Simplified Chinese (typically used in China and Singapore for e.g.) as opposed to Traditional Chinese (used in Hong Kong and Macau for e.g.)? For Spanish, do you prefer a Spain or Latin American translation? In both cases, it'll be understandable for both audiences (i.e. Latin Americans can read a Spanish (Spain) text and vice-versa), but it's like deciding to target English UK vs English US.

Also, should we deliver the translations in Word documents or do you prefer another format?

For Spanish, unless you want to target a specific country, I'd ask one of our Spaniard translator to use what is commonly called "Neutral Spanish" or "International Spanish", which is Spanish w/o regional & local-specific variations and terminology.

Yes, we can deliver them in the google spreadsheet. Do the Key columns refer to something specific for the source text?

Good question. The key name will be used by the developer to fetch the translated string based on the locale in the url. The actual names can be up to you but they should be hyphenated, in English and related to the translated string. If it’s specific to a page it should be prefixed with “page-“ ie “page-home-title”. I have someone offer to translate Livepeer webpage into Czech for $500 of LPT... is this something you are interested in also?

(notably, Czech is one of the 9 languages currently supported for seed words by BIP39).

Awesome. For context around how we're prioritizing languages for translation, we're going in order according to livepeer.org traffic geography in Google Analytics. Czech falls around number 30 on that list, though we don't necessarily have to adhere strictly to that order. What do you think @chrishobcroft? In the end, I suppose the more the merrier so I'm all for it if you know someone able and willing.

@nelsorya, @ericxtang and I are meeting tomorrow morning. I'll bring this up.

Circling back here...the committee consensus was that if we want to do more translations we should do other more popular languages before doing Czech (ie Japanese, German, or Portuguese).

Hi @adamsoffer If you are still interested in getting your page translated into German, I would be more than happy to get the job done and earn some LPT to stake on my Orchestrator (The Swiss). If Portuguese is still on the wishlist, too, I could ask a friend of mine if he is willing to help.

Hey @krn17, there is currently a Livepeer.org website refresh in the works, however once that is complete we are looking at redoing transactions for the website and expanding the number of languages supported
