qualitative scale only has 8 colors, often this is not sufficient
- extend to 12 colors which can still be distinguished, if possible colorblind friendly
- for many colors: Possible strategy: something like ggplot's default scale (hues), but making sure it traverses the spectrum in such a way that it passes by the BLZ green?
create palette similar to the 'paired' brewer palette for pairwise data

Additionally, in dot plots the 2nd, 4th and 6th color are hard to distinguish from one another: need to optimize.
