Sort and/or mark as read filtered items

Describe your desired feature here :

Yesterday, as you can imagine, with the launch of the iPhone 4S, my feeds were 
flooded with posts that included:

iphone, ios, ipod, and apple.

I wanted to just lump them all together and mark them as read.

When I see "Hide", I expected them not to be visible at all (but understand 
you're using code to grey them out).

Of course, it would be nice to only sort/show those filtered so I can confirm 
those are what I want marked as read and there isn't anything that snuck 
through the cracks I might like.

Do this make sense?  Is it even possible?
