Similarly authors should potential use spatial partition to discuss assigning specific cells to a task queue. As readers of the manuscript may be familiar with distributed computing systems, where partitions often have specific usage in those computing environments.

In this case, "partition" carries both meanings. The partitions are partitions as used in distributed computing; they are also spatial partitions easily formed by groups of parent zone IDs. Part of the argument here is that it's possible to cease thinking of the application as being spatial; it would be concievable to also partition by time rather than space, or some other useful partition attribute.

I have attempted to make this clearer.
