[The USA] Mapping strip-malls buildings #422

In the U.S., a "strip mall" refers to a building that contains multiple retail stores. The project was created to review such malls in the US with OSM data and fix it where it is necessary.

We need to collect a ground truth dataset to evaluate the performance of our algorithms. We have collected a set of malls that have this information partially filled in on OSM; however, we’ve found that OSM data is often incorrect / incomplete, and it requires a human to map the polygons.

The processing of features goes by this way: at first we make sure that the mall is indeed a single story strip-mall. Then we check the geometry of buildings using sources that are allowed in OSM ID only. When necessary to replace a polygon we edit the polygon or draw a new one.

Organised Editing/Activities/mapping strip-malls building in The USA OSM wiki page.

Timeframe

We plan to start reviewing issues on February 27, 2024, and editing OpenStreetMap data to fix valid issues.
