General Discussion - Ideapad S540-14IWL #2

Your EFi is the furthest I went on trying to install Mac OS X on my ideapad s540-14IWL. In the beginning VoodooI2C could not load and had a KP. When I did not load it I got ACPI KPs and I am stuck. The main differences between our laptops are: 1. CPU (mine has an 8th gen i5) and 2. GPU, mine has only IGPU. I replaced your VoodooI2C and several other kexts but still have ACPI KPs. Do you think that you could spare the time to assist me?

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

End the last question of the day (I will leave you in peace finally). Will the EFI work with Catalina?

marianopela commented 4 years ago

The card you linked will probably work out of the box with the config you are using (it’s configured ad hoc). Just to let you know I bout this one on amazon https://www.amazon.it/dp/B07R97S6F6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Yes, the EFI will work on Catalina

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

Update:

  1. I found a used DELL DW1560 for 23 € in Greece and I sent a message to the seller.
  2. I installed catalina ... all is just as inMojave.
  3. It drinks the battery juice like an alcoholic drinks whiskey...... This is the main problem right now....
  4. The system report states that the battery has a hull charge capacity of 2848 man with is obviously ... an error....
  5. I rebooted to manjaro from catalina with 15% of battery and manjaro states 12 % ... so there is in fact a battery drain.......However since I Installed on battery I will do further tests.....
  6. I cannot get the card reader to work with sinetek-rtsx.kext.... not that I mind a lot.....
Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

Something very strange is happening. Booting in Catalina with 100 % battery, middle for 10 minutes and the battery stays at 100%. Reboot in manjaro and battery is at 95%, reboot again in catalina and battery is at 99%. Then the display went to sleep, and wake up lead to a crash ...... the finder crashed and then the system. Worth mentioning is the fact that the touchpad is very choppy at the login for about 15 secs. After the crash I rebooted again with 92 % battery set the display sleep at 1 hr and waited with the laptop idle for 20 min. with the display at 60 %. Activity monitor was on to check for cpu usage and no process was using the cpu. After one hour, during which I only installed intel power gadget and run it for 10 minutes, the battery dropped from 92% to 81 % (activity monitor and inter power gadget running). This is terrible (3h 10m of total duration with 4% cpu usage)

So.... just too recap:

  1. We have a serious power consumption problem, and sadly this is out of my league. I believe the problem is with the cpu and its scaling.Intel power gadget reports core avg of 1,30 ghz
  2. Wake from sleep is a mess.

Everything else (apart from sd-reader and fingerprint sensor) works more or less (haven't tested usb - c and HDMI).

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

Note I don't have SSDT-xcpm.aml SSDT-PluginType1.aml and SSDT.aml

In clover configurator /ACPI they are in DisabledAML (don't know what that means)

marianopela commented 4 years ago

My battery is acting the same. It is "shifted" from its real charge by 5/6%, until it reaches 30/40%, then it's in sync. That's obviously not a problem, but I haven't found a way to calibrate it, yet. However, I'm not experiencing any significant drains. You surely need to configure your graphics according to your cpu model (which i5 model have you got?). It will fix the glitch at login/wake too

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

I have an i5-8265u with UHD630 mobile. How can I correct it ?

marianopela commented 4 years ago

Send me your config.plist

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

One config.plist coming right up! config.plist.zip

I am literally stuck in front of my Hackintosh pc !!!!!!!!

marianopela commented 4 years ago

Delete old plist. Empty trash and then put this. Reboot config.plist.zip

I changed this in properties Screenshot 2020-02-21 at 16 49 54

marianopela commented 4 years ago

You can remove the first (disable external gpu) as you don't have it. Forgot to do it myself. Then save

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

Ok thanks!!!!!..... trying right now

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

Where can I find the properties of the screenshot?

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

This is the from the config.plist you sent me Screenshot 2020-02-21 at 7 57 14 PM

marianopela commented 4 years ago

You need to go to the 3rd (0x2, 0x0). That is the graphics Then click on the first of the 2nd column, and you delete with the minus in the bottom right corner

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

OK .... got it .... This thing ... makes me look extremely stupid....!!!!

marianopela commented 4 years ago

Screenshot 2020-02-21 at 17 01 03 Then use this to save

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

black screen ... I will revert to the old

marianopela commented 4 years ago

It happens. Try this Config.plist.zip

Some things might not work because it is an old config I used months ago. But the graphics should be fine, then we can look at the rest

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

Sorry for the delay but i had clients. Ok .... the second config booted. UHD 630 mobile recognized. sound works. keyboard works. Battery is there. usb and usb -c work. In system report -PCI i see the card reader.
But no touchpad

marianopela commented 4 years ago

Well, good for you! Don't worry about the trackpad. We are just experimenting for graphics and battery. Is there still any lag? Does battery drain as fast as before?

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

testing right now..... It seems the battery drain is reduced. In intel power gadget the core watts are reduced when idle at 0,14-0,15. However, 13 minutes on battery with 5 % drop. Still it is an improvement!!!!!

I am compering the original config with the second you sent me and i am using now..!!! They are completely different!!

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

The config needs a clean up!!!!! Can you guide me?

marianopela commented 4 years ago

The config needs a clean up!!!!! Can you guide me?

Don't worry. I'm preparing you 2 of them to try. Let's see if we can get everything (or most of the things) working properly

marianopela commented 4 years ago

How is audio on this last config? Better than before? Is the lag at login gone?

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

Spit out the bone by metallica plays far better (louder)!!!!

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

27 min. uptime with 10% battery drain.... It s definitely better. still a bit problematic but far better ...far better

marianopela commented 4 years ago

Try these. Hopefully they are both better than your current situation. You'll have to compare them and choose one. Rebuild caches after changing config 1st.zip 2nd.zip

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

Will do and report back

marianopela commented 4 years ago

27 min. uptime with 10% battery drain.... It s definitely better. still a bit problematic but far better ...far better

Seems better than before but not quite there yet. I'm getting pretty good battery on my unsupported 10th gen cpu, which is absurd

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

Its not absurd... it s just APPLE.....

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

Ok now i am using this

Τρίτοconfig.plist.zip

Kext cache rebuild. StartUp normal. Touchpad works, choppy for a few seconds at the beggining Sound works It looks that Power consumption is worse than the last one. At idle, core in intel power gadget is at 0,40-0,50 watts (with the last one it was at at 0,14-0,15 watts). cpu temps higher also. Far worse than the previous. However in 10 minutes idle 3-4% battery GPU is recognized as UHD 630 (mobile)

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

I will try the second one now

marianopela commented 4 years ago

It's something. We'll see the results and build on that

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

Ok second one is this Τέταρτοconfig.plist.zip kext cache rebuild boot normal touchpad works, but choppy for more time at the beginning than the last one sound works It looks that Power consumption is a bit better than the last one. At idle, core in intel power gadget is at 0,35-0,38 watts (with the first one five hours ago it was at at 0,14-0,15 watts). cpu temps are the same .

HOWEVER !!! while using clover configurator halve of the time, and with trustd process runnng for a bit with high cpu, In minutes 15 minutes i had a 5% drop in battery

GPU is recognized as UHD 630 (mobile)

From what it seems the config you sent me 5 hours ago was the best in power consumption, with this one coming very close second, despite the higher wattage of the core.
I believe the secret is there. Lets use this one and lets try (hmm.... I mean you... sorry) to lower the wattage.

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

In both cases (first one 5 hours ago and the last one) the system was macbook pro 15.2, the previous was 15.1

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

will the DELL DW1560 work out of the box with this config? If yes.... screw windows ( I don' t use them anyway) I am installing tonight !

marianopela commented 4 years ago

Ok, you can lower the wattage using voltageshift Also, how is consumption/wattage while doing heavy tasks?

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

voltageshift? Had not tried heavy tasks. With the intel power gadget test for 4 threads it picked at 20 watts and thermo throttled at 12,6 -12,9, temps at 64.

marianopela commented 4 years ago

I'm not sure because I don't have it. But we should be able to make it work pretty easily

marianopela commented 4 years ago

Ok, we could reduce that, if we have to. This is voltageshift. I'm still testing it but the results are really promising https://github.com/sicreative/VoltageShift

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

I see ... its promising.... !!!!

One last question for tonight .... ( I feel like i have become a burden). What is the reason for the higher wattage between the last config and this one ?

Config.plist.zip

marianopela commented 4 years ago

The two things that are most likely to affect battery are graphics configuration and smbios (the model of MacBook you fake). Choosing the right smbios should give the best performance

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

Thanks mate ... have a nice night....!!!!!!! I will keep on bothering you tomorrow.... We will start with sleep/wake issues.

Saddly I just found out that the DELL DW1560 was sold yesterday, so i will have to order a DW1820a. Tomorrow morning I will have to go to my office for an emergency legal problem of a client (a.k.a installation of mac os x on a lenovo ideapad and configuring it, whatever i can do without an internet connection, since i dont want to use the wifi stick so that i will not mess up the imessage etc).

marianopela commented 4 years ago

That is no problem. DW1820a is well supported on our device Good night and good luck with the client ;-)

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

Buongiorno Mariano !!!! Ho fatto l'installazione.

marianopela commented 4 years ago

Hi, sorry but I wasn't home until now I have two questions: Why eBay and not Amazon? Is Amazon not active in Greece? And why the translator? Is it more comfortable than writing in English?

From what I see, you should definitely reduce your wattage with voltageshift Try this voltageshift_10.zip Following these and post me the output of the info command Screenshot 2020-02-22 at 17 03 33

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

The translation was just for showing a bit respect for the help... and a bit fun.... Anyway...

  1. I usually order from ebay.... and the dw1820a will be my back up.... I am still looking for a DW1560.
  2. I will try undervolting. I wanted to try it already in manjaro.

I tried to make the sd reader work. Found this https://osxlatitude.com/forums/topic/7346-applesdxc-driverdsdt-patch-for-o2-micro-sd-card-readers/

and tried the the December 28, 2018 post ..... now luck however I added this in my config.plist

SDREADER.rtf.zip

but it didn' t work ...

Anyway can you help me clean up the config.plist you sent me?? I think it needs cleanup!!!

Hasodikis commented 4 years ago

I also managed to boot to manjaro from clover.
