Track Adwords referrer for visits with a referrer like google.com/aclk or google.com/gclk #6839

It would be beneficial for Piwik users who use Adwords to allow the google 'keyword not defined' to instead show the actual URL - I realize it won't show much, but currently the only way I can track paid vs organic clicks is by differentiating between the beginning of a url (aclk + gclk - usually mean it's a paid adword). I have yet to try retagging all of my adwords manually vs. google's auto tagging which is currently enabled but does not show the keyword or campaign. It seems that Adwords is the only autotagging that does not come through and display correctly.

example: http://www.google.ca/aclk?sa=l&ai=C4Zlv8lmGVIjEJMSApgP5n4CYCe2H4OICvdzWnoMBkvyhDggAEAFg_aCZgegDoAGjp-vLA8gBAakC3k4OpN45rT6qBB9P0OeQH3wwBUm1FUNQ2dmWjFrVvfG2GmlplVOd-yFf0gYLEP3YERjlgcQhKAGAB8XYlDSQBwGoB6a-.....

Hi guys, thanks for feedback.

to make sure I understand and we fix the issue in the way most useful to you, can you paste here some example complete referrers URL for ACLK and GCLK from the Visitor Log, and how you think Piwik should set campaigns names/keyword for those referrer Urls?

Hi, Thank you for the reply. I haven't any saved referrers but I've located one online.

http://www.google.com/aclk?sa=l&ai=CiYM8O*************MB0dSrhhy7lI4IEAMoCFDOmKCQ-_____8BYLuuwoPQCqABnc2x_gPIAQ************gsrkQFb9zKipv1Qp62qStFoh&num=6&sig=AOD64_************mG7ISbLjDg&ved=0**EQ0Qw&adurl=https://www.********.co.uk/la/1/?keyword=mortgage&gcrid=74*******65&rt=v&rate=1.99

You can see that the first slash after google will say GCLK OR ACLK, if the google URL has either, it should simply label it something like 'paid keyword unknown' - from my understanding, I cannot fix this unless I manually tag each keyword and thus disable auto-tagging.

Please let me know if you would like clarification. Thank you for taking the time to address this - I think it's important to differentiate between paid vs organic.

Thank you.

Hello, a question: so, keyword not defined can mean that part of those clicks come from Adwords? At this point, not yet understood why Piwik can't properly separate.... thanks p.s.: eg. with Livezilla: sometimes it reports the "aclk", sometimes just https://www.google.com or google.xx and nothing else...and I don't understand if even those visitors are from Adwords or not...

and also, yesterday Adwords declared _220_ clicks, while Piwik registered _96_ unique visitors from Google... how is it possible? I already have the noscript code for users with disabled javascript... and it should be the opposite! should be expected "more visits than clicks"... am I wrong?

@7starsone are you using PIwik 2.15.0?

7starsone commented 8 years ago

yes, indeed...

mattab commented 8 years ago

Can you check your server access logs for this day, and email me matt@piwik.org your server logs containing the 220 clicks from adwords?

Hello, sent email with subject "Access log | Adwords 24th November" thank you ;-)
