LaTeX Error: File `silence.sty' not found. #5

I cloned the repository and ran make. I get following error message:

I am running OS X Mojave (10.14.3) and mactex-basictex from April of 2018 (installed via brew).

it seems to be working with the normal mactex distribution on brew
