While I don't generally believe in coding to satisfy arbitrary benchmarks, I would certainly be open to alternative approaches that would improve performance. Forking is usually the tool of last resort in open source, right? LET'S TRY TO WORK TOGETHER ON THIS, GUYS.

OK man, for the sake of the cohesiveness of the true community, I'm sure we can set aside our philosophical differences. Fork = !true.
